Doors Off

Jeepin’ Terry’s Jeep 4Lo Kylo with the doors off and top down!

Nothing says Jeep life quite like cruising with the doors off—especially as we roll into that perfect top-down, doors-off weather. There’s just something about an open-air Jeep drive that never gets old. My love for it actually goes all the way back to my early days at a Boy Scout camp in Tennessee, where I got my first real taste of what a true, barebones Jeep experience felt like.

My boss Andy drove an old-school Jeep CJ, and to this day, it’s still one of the coolest rigs I’ve ever been in. Faded sky blue, no doors, likely no top ever installed, and as simple as it gets—just a shifter, a couple of gauges, and pure freedom. That Jeep wasn’t about comfort; it was about the experience. And that experience? Unmatched.

Every Sunday for two summers, Andy would pick me up and take me to camp—half paved roads, half gravel—and somehow, we hit both at the same speed. It was equal parts terrifying and exhilarating. No doors, barely a lap belt, wind ripping over the windshield, and just hanging on as the rear end slid through gravel corners. It was raw, unpredictable, and completely freeing. That’s the moment I understood what Jeep ownership is really about.

Fast forward to now, and even though I’ve only taken the doors off my Jeep a couple of times, the feeling is still the same. Just the other night, I picked up my buddy Dave, and for a few hours, it felt like we were back in high school—no plans, just driving and enjoying the moment. Taking the doors off completely transforms the Jeep driving experience. It’s not just how it looks—it’s how it feels behind the wheel.

With warmer weather here, it might be time to embrace that full open-air Jeep lifestyle again. I just need to grab a set of mirrors so I can run doorless a little more confidently.

So how about you—are you running doors off this season? Let us know your favorite open-air Jeep moments.
